Discover the Art of Batik Canting in Terengganu
There is something beautifully calming about making something by hand
At Nysakapas, we invite you to step away from the rush of everyday life and discover the traditional art of Batik Canting — a beautiful Malaysian craft that brings together patience, creativity and the gentle rhythm of working with hot wax and cloth.
Every Sunday morning, join us at Nysa Ryssa Batik Cafe in Kuala Terengganu for a three-hour Batik Canting experience designed for beginners, first-timers, families, friends and anyone who simply wants to slow down and create.
What is Batik Canting?
Batik Canting is a traditional technique where hot wax is carefully drawn onto fabric using a small tool called a canting.
The wax creates a resist on the cloth, allowing colour to be applied while preserving the areas covered by wax. What begins as a simple line slowly becomes a pattern, a flower, a leaf or a design that is uniquely your own.
Unlike simply buying a piece of batik, making batik yourself allows you to experience the craft from the inside — to understand the patience, precision and skill behind every handmade piece.
Our workshop is more than simply learning a craft.
It is an opportunity to slow down.
You will learn how to hold and use the canting, work with hot wax and create your own design on fabric. Along the way, you may find yourself becoming completely absorbed in the process — watching the wax flow, following your lines and gradually seeing your design come to life.
There is no need to be an artist
There is no perfect design
The beauty of Batik Canting lies in the small imperfections and personal touches that make every handmade piece different.
What You Will Experience
During the three-hour workshop, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Batik Canting and guided through the process step by step.

Come With Friends, Family or Simply Come As You Are
Batik is meant to be experienced
Bring your friends and spend a Sunday morning creating together. Bring your children and introduce them to one of Malaysia's beautiful traditional crafts. Or simply come on your own and enjoy a quiet morning of creativity.
For us, the most rewarding part is watching each participant become completely immersed in their work — the concentration, the laughter, the little moments of discovery and, finally, the happiness of seeing their own creation take shape.
Experience Terengganu's Batik Heritage
Terengganu has a long and distinctive batik tradition, and at Nysakapas, we believe that keeping this heritage alive means more than preserving finished pieces.
It means sharing the knowledge, encouraging people to experience the craft and creating opportunities for the next generation to connect with batik.
Through our workshops, we hope to make traditional batik approachable, enjoyable and relevant to today's visitors and communities.
Whether you are visiting Kuala Terengganu or looking for something meaningful to do on a Sunday morning, our Batik Canting Workshop offers a chance to experience a small part of Terengganu's craft heritage — with your own hands.
