About Batik Palas
Licuala spinosa, the Mangrove fan palm, is a species of palm in the genus Licuala. The plant is native to the wet places of fresh and salt water Southeast Asia. It may grow in clumps, loves the hot sun and lots of water.
A Terengganu name for Licuala Spinosa is Palas, here it's leaves are used wrap food like "Ketupat" and "Lepat".
Batik Palas is made from two Batik Brasses. The "Palas" Batik Motif is an evergreen palm in different clumps and stem. Each stem is topped by a crown of large leaves with prickly petioles. It's design is ornamental, symbolic, our third motif from our Penawar 2023 Batik Collection!
What is a Bayla "Triangle Bag" ?
Practicing the art of folding or the traditional way of Japanese wrapping cloth method, we are happy to introduce our very first zero-waste product which we fashioned with simple seams, 100% wrapping technique known as Furoshiki which brings a better, sustainable way of carrying goods in a piece of batik. Each bag is cut, folded and wrapped carefully to obtain a symmetrical yet abstract outcome.
